community and charitable support

Throughout our history, we’ve actively supported the communities in which we do business. After all, those communities support us too. So whether it’s through participation in local sporting events, charities or community services, we’re there.

B.C. school fruit & vegetable snack -program child health B.C.

Every two weeks during the school year, our BC stores supply a BC grown fruit or vegetable to every student in the participating schools throughout the province. Save-On-Foods is proud to support this important initiative aimed at improving child nutrition.

The goals of this program, developed by the BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation, include increasing the awareness of the health benefits of fruits and vegetables; supporting B.C. agriculture growers, producers and suppliers by increasing the awareness of fruits and vegetables grown in the province; and increasing the understanding of the safe handling practices of fruits and vegetables.

Currently, over 1,000 elementary schools are involved in this program, with all schools in BC having an opportunity to participate by 2010.

In 2007, we announced our $20 million pledge to Child Health B.C.-the single largest donation ever made to child health in B.C. This initiative, created to establish a provincial standard of child health across B.C., ensures that B.C.'s children and their families receive the best health care possible, wherever they live.

Since we began supporting children's hospitals in B.C. and Alberta, together with our supplier partners, team members and customers, we've raised over $13 million for child care in the two provinces we serve.

children's hospitals share a bit of goodness

TOGETHER we’re raising money to help B.C. and Alberta kids. In 2007, we raised $536,673 for the BC Children’s Hospital , $34,593 for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation in Alberta and $6,032 for Alberta's Children's Hospital.
